How to Write Better AI Prompts: 7 Simple Tips

Short answer: tell the AI who the answer is for, what you need, the format you want, and any important details. Then refine with follow-up questions. A clear request gets a clear answer.

1. Give context

Instead of: "Write a letter."
Try: "Write a short, polite letter to my landlord in Quezon City asking to fix a leaking roof before the rainy season."

2. Say who it's for

"Explain inflation for a Grade 8 student" gets a very different answer from "Explain inflation for an economics graduate".

3. Ask for a format

Bullet points, a table, a step-by-step list, or "under 100 words". For example: "Give me a table comparing three budget phones under ₱10,000 by battery, camera and storage."

4. Share examples

Paste a sample of the style you like — "write it in a tone like this paragraph" — and the AI will match it.

5. Break big tasks into steps

Ask for an outline first, then each section. You'll get better results and can correct the direction early.

6. Ask it to check itself

Follow-ups like "What could be wrong with this answer?" or "Which facts here should I double-check?" help catch mistakes.

7. Iterate

Your first prompt is a starting point. Say what to change: "shorter", "more formal", "add an example", "in Filipino".

A full example

"I'm a pisonet owner in Pampanga. Write a friendly 3-sentence sign in Taglish reminding customers to log out of their accounts before leaving. Keep it simple for kids to understand."
